For the first time, La Perla took to the catwalks in Milan with a preview of its spring/summer 2001 underwear and beachwear collections. La Perla went for experimentation with a revolutionary bra design: the braces-bra, two straps of seduction that only cover the centre of the bosom. It is not easy to create something genuinely unprecedented in the world of underwear, but the braces-bra possesses the appeal of the totally new, something that wasn't there before but is now possible. This audacious version of men's braces appears in both the beachwear and underwear collections.
In addition to the "chain-kini", the collection features bijou swimsuits illuminated by gold chains and covered with Swarovski crystals, and pure glam rock numbers with cherry red leather braid.
| | The undisputed star of the beachwear collection is the chain-kini, an exclusive bikini with braces-bra top made entirely from gold chains. The new object of desire is the season's real exclusive, since it will be only made to order through La Perla boutiques. The cost was around three million lire.
