DONATELLA VERSACE's latest collection gave the Milan schedule an expected injection of curves and glitz. At the converted warehouse that is the traditional Versace venue, models took to a huge graffiti-sprayed catwalk in a show that talked high-voltage sex appeal, pure Hollywood glamour and red carpet splendour. Hot red and white were big for spring/summer 2002, with sleeveless punctured leather tops worn over flouncy chiffon minis or super-tight satin trouser suits with zip-fronted jackets that were shot with lines of gold embroidery. Leather pencil skirts came under matching fringed jackets and sumptuous thigh-length coats were widely belted with huge silver buckles. There were more splashes of colour on white satin blazers emblazoned with sunflowers of blue, yellow, green and purple and in the garish floral-prints of chiffon ankle-lengthskirts that were slashed to the thigh and worn with matching strapless bodices. But, as ever, the real thrill was in the eveningwear, where whitechiffon minis glittered and black ankle-length robes with corset-strung fronts or lace side panels and underskirts had a premiere-hungry look in their eye (VOUGE). we do VERSACE ready to wear |
