DONATELLA VERSACE's main line took centre stage. Amber Valletta, was one of a handful of mega-modelswho have returned to the catwalk this season, stepping onto the neon back-lit runway all in white (white polo, white pants) but for a wide-lapelledcoat of many swirling, hallucinogenic colours. The plain white and the plain black styles (from sexy, cotton mannish shirts to bust-enhancing bandeau tops overhung with sheer drapes of chiffon) were a welcome compliment to Versace's regular palette of fluorescents, and her eveningwear (here come the Oscars) was in every sense outstanding. Triangles of silkwere twisted, slashed and stitched together like the shredded sails of fairytale ships and you can bet someone has already got their name down for the one-shouldered disco ball dress worn by Karolina Kurkova. But what the collection proved above all else is that Donatella, though not a trained designer, adds a new string to her fashion bow each season. For autumn/winter 2002, believe it or not, her new string was self-restraint. (VOUGE). we do VERSACE ready to wear | |
